Seems to work OK. The analog radio tuner is pretty sensative but you can pull in stations with a light touch. The built-in speaker is a nice convenience. Sort of a throw back to days gone by. One thing to look out for is you could easily erase your cassette tape while playing it if you accidentally press the record button. With most cassette recordes you push play and record at the same time. This unit will record if you push record *while* it's playing. Be careful.

The sound quality is slightly tinny, but what do you expect for something this small? ( 4 cm x 9 cm x 12.5 cm, and 10 oz. ). It has a clear instruction manual, but you do not need it. The completely mechanical (not digital) controls are straightforward. It has a 4.5 V DC input jack, a microphone jack, and an earphone jack. The sturdy box includes a little microphone and earbuds that can be plugged into their respective jacks. I tested the AM/FM radio, the microphone, and the earbuds. Not concert hall quality, but they all worked fine. If you do not want to run it on two AA batteries, you can plug the included cord into the DC input jack and a standard USB power output and it runs fine. And yes, you can turn on its radio, press the Record button, and record your favorite radio program. In summary, a/the real deal.

It is versatile

I could not insert the cassette into the player at all - the latch would not close. And when I switched to FM it worked but the sound was tinny and flat. I returned it immediately.

I have old Books on Tape - this is an amazing player. Functional and easy to use. Great output and recording ability.

Im fairly giving 3 stars. I would rate this 5 stars if the unit worked. I originally bought this as a gift for my cassette loving uncle to play in his car. The unit worked great so he asked me to get him a second unit for his home. The second unit didn’t have the same audio output volume as the first one. Okay, fine, defects happen. I exchange for a new one and the replacement didn’t work at all. We are now in the process of getting a THIRD replacement. I hope this one works.
